Benjamin Kings paintings merge abstract expression with landscape in ways that both enhance and push against each other. The surfaces range from almost bare canvas to thick encrusted fields of paint. Brushstrokes and textures mimic the feeling of nature more than they literally describe it. There is a compression of images and sensations, which have absorbed the places, feelings and textures found in nature. These paintings are a balancing act between the description of the familiar symbols for nature and an exploration of abstraction and material improvisation.

Benjamin King holds a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from the University of Chicago. King has exhibited in many group shows in the United States including NEXT Chicago 2010 with Projex-Mtl, "It's my World" at Baer Ridgway Exhibitions in San Francisco, CA, "Seasonal Pictures" at ACME in Los Angeles, CA
