Sean Montgomery est né à Edmonton en Alberta et il a complété un Baccalauréat à l’Université de l’Alberta ainsi qu’une maîtrise à l’Université Concordia à Montréal.
La pratique artistique de Montgomery s’intéresse aux patterns, à la répétition ainsi qu’à l’exploration des stratégies de représentation en peinture, son travail se situant à la limite de la figuration et de l’abstraction. Il explore également l’histoire de l’abstraction en portant une attention particulière aux différentes hiérarchies artistiques. Les sujets qu’il affectionne incluent la notion de masculinité et sa représentation, le paysage, l’iconographie Canadienne, l’exploration de l’identité les patterns trouvés dans les textiles ainsi que les notions de classe sociale.
Montgomery a exposé dans plusieurs universités, foires, centres d’artistes et Musées au Canada, en Europe et aux États Unis, dont l’Université Cornell à Ithaca, New York en 2013 et 2014 et au Museum Sinclair-Haus en Allemagne en 2014.
Ses oeuvres se retrouvent dans plusieurs collections privées et corporatives au Québec, au Canada et aux U.S.A., en Allemagne et au Japon, dont Cenovus, Calgary, Banque TD, Toronto, La Collection Senvest à Montréal ainsi que la compagnie Ron Herman basée à Tokyo.

Sean Montgomery is an artist from Edmonton, Alberta. He received a BFA in Painting from the University of Alberta and a MFA in Painting and Drawing from Concordia University.
Montgomery’s artistic practice is focused on pattern, repetition, and exploring the space between representational and abstract imagery. His work is engaged with the history of abstraction and the examination of different artistic hierarchies. Montgomery explores topics under this umbrella including nature, landscape and Canadian iconography, textiles and fabric patterns, as well as social class and identity.
Montgomery’s work has been exhibited at a range of venues including universities, commercial galleries, artist run centers, art fairs and museums in Canada, Europe, and the USA, most notably in two exhibitions at Cornell University in Ithaca, New-York in 2011 and 2013 and in 2014 at the Museum Sinclair-Haus in Germany. His work can be found in many private and corporate collections in Québec, Ontario, the U.S.A. and in Germany amongst them Cenovus in Calgary, TD Bank in Toronto, Senvest Collection in Montreal and Ron Herman in Tokyo.
In addition to his painting practice, Montgomery is also the Supreme Dictator of the Ithaca MoMA (The Ithaca Museum of Modern Art), as well as one of the world’s foremost scholars on the artist movement known as the “School of Lubividska”.
